About Us
At Equal World Coffee we are dedicated to providing the very best of: Fair Trade Certified™ and Ethically Traded, Organic, Arabica, Connoisseur Grade / Gourmet, Specialty Coffee in the world to our Customers.
As a Social Enterprise using an innovative and equitable sharing approach to doing business here and in the developing world; Equal World Coffee works hard to build sustainability. We believe the best way to help poor coffee farmers not be poor any more; is to engage in direct trade and provide them with consistent access to market.
Established in 2007, our mandate at Equal World Coffee is to fulfill Proverbs 31.
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.
Coffee farmers around the globe have traditionally been among the poorest of the poor and terribly exploited throughout the history of the coffee.
Equal World Coffee is paying above published Fair Trade™ prices for our exceptional, organically grown, Arabica, Specialty coffee. In addition, we work with the COOPAC and Community leadership in Rwanda specifically to direct 10% of our retail sales revenue here in the U.S. back to the co-op community for reinvestment. See our ongoing News Blog for more details and reports on impact.
Most of the farmers grow coffee as their only cash crop. It must provide the much needed income to supplement their subsistence farming and support their family. The necessities of life such as food security, shoes, clean clothing, clean water, medical care and education have all been unaffordable luxuries. We are working together to change that.
Coffee Cooperatives are taking hold across Rwanda and coffee growing regions of the world. This results in changing deplorable living conditions and giving voice to the coffee producer. In Rwanda, co-ops also promote reconciliation in the community.
Equal World Coffee knows that the Specialty Coffee sector has an enormous potential to create prosperous and vibrant rural economies in Rwanda and elsewhere. Coffee directly affects over half of the entire population in Rwanda alone! By helping boost rural economies there, the population will be empowered, new jobs will be created and lives can be transformed on a sustainable, independent basis.
Equal World Coffee is dedicated to playing a pivotal role in improving the economy of coffee farm cooperatives in Rwanda and hopefully elsewhere as we grow and can extend our reach. We see direct impact on the lives of the coffee producers and their families already - and are privileged to be an encouragement to the co-op.
On behalf of the coffee producers, we say thank you to our customers and commercial partners who have chosen to change the way the buy their coffee at home and at their business. At present we may be considered a small Social Enterprise business – but we have a BIG vision and even BIGGER heart for the potential impact. Share our story and change the way you buy your coffee. Where you make your coffee purchase - does make a difference.
Together we are building sustainability and eliminating poverty one cup at a time™
