Anticipation! Clean Water is Coming...

  • Equal World Coffee newsletter

From the time we wake up in the morning to brew our first pot of coffee - until it is time to turn off the lights at night, the average person will use over 100 gallons of pure clean water each day. Water is life.

Access to clean water is not something many of us have to think about very much. We turn on the faucet and naturally expect it to spew forth into our coffee pots, mugs and pans...over our tooth brushes, bodies and cars...to wash our dishes, clothes, pets...and on though a myriad of other applications and needs throughout our day.

Mukamuganga - An Equal World Coffee Producer With an Entrepreneurial Spirit and Hope for the Future

Mukamuganga is seen here picking coffee cherries from coffee trees that overlook the shores of Lake Kivu in northwest Rwanda. She is married with two daughters and one son - and is one of many Specialty Coffee farmers in this region.

“I would like to express sincere thanks to our Cooperative leaders for building the coffee washing station in this community" she shares. "It now only takes me about 20 minutes to carry my coffee cherries to the washing station to be processed for Specialty Coffee” said a happy Mukamuganga.

Mutamu The Goat - Transforms A Marriage

In Rwanda the gift of a goat can transform and save lives...but little did we know they can save marriages too! Just ask Martha Kabanyana who married her childhood sweetheart, Phenias Twayigire back in 1974. The couple has been blessed with six children - but it has been a painful struggle.

After fleeing the horrors of the genocide in 1994, the couple returned to find they had lost their land, their home and their animals. It was a dark and traumatic time for all of Rwanda. The emotional recovery will take a generations.
